Operating principles

A practical field guide to controlled, evidence-led SEO operations.

Use these concise guides to understand prioritisation, exact-change review, protected pages, controlled execution, verification, and measurement before choosing how much of the workflow to automate.

Start with the lifecycle

Treat each SEO change as a governed piece of work.

The useful sequence is evidence, prioritisation, exact-change review, approval, eligible execution, verification, and later outcome observation.

Controlled lifecycleScan to learn, with one retained evidence trail.

SCAN → DIAGNOSE → PRIORITISE → RECOMMEND → APPROVE OR AUTOPILOT → BACK UP → APPLY → VERIFY → MEASURE → LEARN

  1. ScanGSC, GA4, AI visibility and page content
  2. DiagnoseTitles, meta, schema and internal links
  3. PrioritiseRank bounded observed opportunities
  4. RecommendBind evidence to one exact change
  5. Approve or autopilotOwner approval or bounded opt-in policy
  6. Back upRetain required before-state evidence
  7. ApplyUse a supported WordPress or Shopify operation
  8. VerifyRun the platform's exact supported verification
  9. MeasureRecord the measured outcome as observation
  10. LearnCarry retained evidence into later decisions

Execution appears only when platform, plan, readiness, policy and safety checks permit it.

A first useful decision

Start with one page and one answerable question.

These steps are useful even before a connected site is allowed to publish a change. A free scan is an introductory public-page check, while connected search and analytics evidence adds context after authorised setup.

1 · Observe the pageRun the read-only page scan and note the title, heading, canonical, useful content and internal links. Treat the score as a prompt to investigate, not a ranking prediction.
2 · Decide what mattersWith authorised Search Console access, compare the page and its queries using clicks, impressions, CTR and average position. Optional GA4 context can show engagement, but neither source proves a proposed edit will help.
3 · Review the exact proposalCheck the saved target page, current field, proposed replacement, reason and operation. Keep protected pages and approval rules in force; opt-in automation remains bounded by the same eligibility checks.
4 · Verify and observeAfter an eligible, approved change, re-read the supported platform result and retain its task evidence. Compare later observations over an appropriate period without claiming the edit alone caused the movement.
